We're Here For You
At WHSCDA Families Truly Matter. The research, as well as best practice has shown that family engagement in school helps to ensure both academic success and success in life for a child. You have probably heard the phrase, "it takes a village to raise a child" and that is not far from the truth. Family, school, and community can work together to foster the type of caring environment that children need to maximize their potential in school and in later life. We know families today are busy and that there is no greater influence on a child than their family. With this in mind, we have developed strategies to support Dr. Joyce Epstein's Family Engagement model that fit into the lives of today's families. Our family engagement practices are modeled after Dr. Epstein's Types of Involvement:
- Parenting: Promote and Foster Parenting Skills to develop a Home Environment that supports children as learners
- Communication between home and school
- Volunteering: We value and recruit Parental Support and assistance in School Activities
- Learning at Home: Families play an integral role in assisting Children's Learning
- School Decision Making: Include families in Decision Making and develop Parent Leaders
